The Cape House is a historical house built in 1809 made from hand hewed
logs for the foundation and maple hard wood and yellow
pine
floors throughout the house. The original stepping stone
used by the early settlers is still located by the front
porch in place and is still used today. When you enter
the dining room you will be greeted by an antique hand
braided oval rug made from clothes once used. The
living room consists of a built-in bookcase that exposed
a hatch in the floor used to help slaves escape through
a secret passage that lead to a tunnel, (underground
railroad). That tunnel has since then been hand dug into
a basement.
Situated on 1.8 acres of land is a barn that was used as a carriage
house and wood working shop. A chicken coop in the
earlier days was turned into a guest house that was used
to accommodate the pilots who navigated The St. Lawrence
Seaway. Later on the owner turned the Cape House into a
Bed and Breakfast. On the property you will see an
existing outhouse that has been recently renovated, many
old black walnut, sugar maple, birch and pine trees to
enjoy.
We know that your stay at the Cape House
will be an enjoyable and a memorable time. If we can be
of further assistance please do not hesitate to call us.
